bacon wrapped tater tot ingredients
- bacon-- you will find gluten in several brands of bacon. Our favorite safe go-to brands are Applegate's Sunday Bacon, Dietz and Watson, Welshire Farms, and Hormel. Turkey bacon will work as well. Keep scrolling to learn more about what makes bacon not gluten free.
- tater tots-- double check your tater tots are gluten free. While they are naturally gluten free some brands will prepare their tots in a gluten coating before baking them. Our go-to is the Ore-Ida brand. Here is their FAQ regarding allergens.
- optional-- brown sugar. This adds even more bonus flavor to these tots.
- optional dairy free dips-- while these Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots are addictive on their own, you can also add homemade or Good Food dairy free dips to the platter. We love the Good Foods plant-based Queso style dip and their Buffalo style dip. We reached out to the manufacturer and were reassured their dips are produced in a gluten free facility. Side note-- we use the queso on our taco and enchilada recipes too. We purchase Good Food dips at Target. We cannot wait for you to try these dips and let us know which ones you like best.

frequently asked questions
why is there gluten in bacon
While bacon is naturally gluten free, several manufacturers will either add liquid smoke flavor {using barley malt powder} or gluten to thicken the added seasonings they add to their bacon.
We always suggest reading the bacon package ingredients and "may contain" section. If you need bacon with no possibility of cross-contamination during the manufacturing process, we suggest reading here for more information.
which tater tots are safe
Many tater tot brands are made with flour as a coating in order to make them crisp up more in the oven. Unfortunately this flour typically contains gluten.
With this in mind, we prefer the Ore-Ida tater tots. They are easily available at most grocery stores.
what else can I wrap bacon around
We like bacon wrapped asparagus, dates, and even jalapenos for pizazz. You can find recipes for these on Pinterest.
You can also add dairy free cheese to this Bacon Wrapped Tater Tot recipe.
can these be made ahead of time
Yes and no. You can prep the recipe ahead of time, cover, and refrigerate for a few hours. However we would suggest baking these right before serving. Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots are best when served warm, right out of the oven.
