Munch into these Homemade Snickers Cups that feature a sweet peanut butter bottom layer, a creamy chocolate layer and a crunchy peanut top layer.
You only need 5 ingredients to make these sweet dessert treats. Since we made these with almond flour and chose dairy free chocolate chips, these are gluten free and dairy free treats to enjoy whenever you have a sweet tooth.
Grab these simple pantry staple ingredients, a muffin tin, some liners and let's get to making these no bake treats.
Ingredient Brands and Tips (Get full recipe in recipe card at bottom of page)
- Creamy Peanut butter- We like to choose one that is made with just peanuts and salt. Natural peanut butter also works
- Maple syrup
- Almond Flour- use your favorite brand. We like to use Bob's Red Mill Almond Flour or 365 from Whole Foods.
- Chocolate Chips- We use dairy free chocolate chips, often the Enjoy brand as we usually buy that in bulk. But you can use any dairy free chocolate chips, or regular semi sweet or milk chocolate chips if you don't need to be dairy free.
- Peanuts- We used the peanut halves, but you could use chopped peanuts instead
Layered Snickers Cups Instructions
In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter and maple syrup until combined.
Add almond flour and mix to combine.
Line the muffin tin with liners and transfer the mixture to each well. Use a spoon to flatten out the mixture. Then transfer the muffin tin to the freezer and freeze for 2 hours.
Melt chocolate on the stovetop in a small saucepan or in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl.
Remove peanut butter mixture from the freezer. Pour melted chocolate on top of the frozen peanut butter.
Add peanuts to the top chocolate layer and allow to set in the fridge.
Once the treats have set, remove from the tin and enjoy!
Storage
Store these snack cups in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. You can freeze these treats.
Variations and Tips
- If you want to make this perfect treat even more like your favorite candy bar, you can add some creamy caramel to this treat.
- If you don't have cupcake liners, spray your cupcake tray wells with coconut oil before adding the mixture. Then use a sharp knife to run along the walls to help release them from the walls.
- You can also try adding other toppings such as shredded coconut, chopped almonds, or drizzled with melted chocolate.
- Be careful not to overheat the chocolate as it can burn easily.
- If you have a dairy free dark chocolate you enjoy, you can use that instead.
- We prefer to serve this sweet treat chilled but you could serve at room temperature.
Can I make Snickers Bars instead of Cups?
You can make homemade Snickers Bars with this recipe if desired. Instead of making these in individual muffin cups, try making them in a baking dish.
To do this, we recommend using an 8x8-inch baking dish. It may be helpful to double the recipe depending on how thick you want your bars.
We think if we made them this way, instead of the cups, we'd definitely add some (dairy free) caramel sauce to the layers of chocolate and peanut butter. A caramel layer would really make these bars seem like the real deal.
Making your own homemade treats is fun thing to do, especially when you're gluten free and dairy free and the "usual treats" aren't safe for you. If you want some more copycat recipes- try our homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!
